After the election of Malaga as European capital of Smart Tourism in 2020 a few weeks ago, the organization of the New Tech Observatory (ONT) announced today that precisely that will be its central theme in the fourth edition of this event.
“The choice of Malaga as the European capital of Intelligent Tourism is a unique opportunity to present in the Observatory all the advances that New Technologies can offer to the tourism industry”, in the opinion of Ricardo Medina, CEO of Medina Media Events, organizer of the event.
In addition, the organization has confirmed the dates of the ONT, which will be the 3rd and 4th of June, month and a half before their previous dates, to encourage the participation of international and university speakers, given that July is the month in which most Europeans take their summer holidays.
The Malaga Observatory is the main cross-cutting event on New Technologies, and offers an annual view of the advances that occur every year around the world in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, Video Games, eSports, Artificial Intelligence, Serious Games, etc. applied to different fields.
Next year, the Observatory will focus its keynotes and demonstrations on Smart Tourism, which has already been present in previous editions, but not as its own thematic block.
The European Capital of Smart Tourism is an EU initiative that promotes smart tourism in the region and encourages the development of innovative, sustainable and inclusive tourism and the exchange of good practices.
The European Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska, responsible for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, stressed that “our aim is to promote intelligent tourism in the EU by encouraging innovative, sustainable and inclusive tourism development to respond to the new challenges of a rapidly changing sector”.
In addition, the European Commissioner has said that, through the European Capital of Smart Tourism initiative, the EC intends to establish a framework for the exchange of good practices and the creation of networks between European cities and generate opportunities for collaboration.
The New Tech Observatory has been held annually since 2017 in the National Pole of Digital Content of Malaga, with the sponsorship of ProMálaga and the collaboration of Extenda (Trade Promotion Agency of Andalusia).
